Zoe is a beautiful, little, 13 year old, formosan mountain dog. She was rescued from Taiwan after suffering a left hind leg amputation and severe left front paw injury sustained from a trap.
Zoe is hearing impaired, anxious, has pain in her front paw due to injury, tension in the thoracic sling, and arthritis in the front legs and right hip related to compensation for her 3 limb gait.
Massage goals focus on improving pain management and touch sensitivity, and relieving anxiety. Passive repetitive stretching is also required to counter muscle contraction and improve range of motion.
Zoe is very cooperative during massage considering the severity of her injuries and past trauma. She continues to enjoy daily exercise and is supported by a pet stroller when she needs breaks.
Q-Tip is a handsome, friendly, 7 year old persian longhair mix. He is very receptive to touch and cooperative during all phases of his massage, including; range of motion assessment, deep tissue massage, and passive repetitive stretching.
Q-Tip holds the majority of his muscle tension in the muscle groups responsible for lifting his limbs when walking.
Massage goals for Q-Tip include decreasing muscle tension and relaxation.
Bailey is a very healthy, energetic, vocal, 3 year old, cairn terrier. Bailey has no medical issues, but his high intensity mental state has created physical muscle tension. With maintenance massage he enjoys reduced muscle tension, and activation of his parasympathetic nervous system.
Bailey responds extremely well to specific massage techniques designed to activate his parasympathetic nervous system. The specific techniques engage Bailey’s nervous system and condition him to be less reactionary and on guard.
From Bailey’s first massage, his guardian commented that Bailey was the most quiet and calm he’s been in the 3 years since welcoming him home, and that even though massage results in a number of physical benefits, what impressed them the most is the positive, soothing, impact on Bailey’s nervous system.
Sully is a very healthy, active, 2 year old, hound-staffordshire terrier- husky mix. With maintenance massage he enjoys quicker recovery from his high activity lifestyle, and relaxation of his nervous system. He consistently falls asleep during his sessions and awakens to a calm state with reduced muscle tension.
Sully’s guardians can clearly observe his softened eyes, facial expressions, and overall calmed behaviour both during and long after his massage sessions.
Marley is a sweet, senior, 15 year old, maltese, retired agility dog. She is in very good health for her age. However, like most seniors, she does experience joint pain and muscle tension - especially around the more painful joints. In Marley’s specific case; her shoulders, elbows, and hips.
Massage goals for Marley include relaxation and pain management.
Animal massage techniques can initially feel a little unfamiliar to a pet. Marley was no exception, but she definitely eased into it and was very cooperative. She did so well, she ended her first massage relaxed and sleepy in the prone position.
